Mrs. Wood writes with feeling, her characters are real-life, enduring all the vissitudes that can possibly afflict the body, mind, and soul. This story includes the conflicts and pranks of school boys, the impediments that obstruct lovers, a whodonit mystery, a missing son, sickness and death, and the hard lessons of raising untamed offspring. Old fashioned mystery story. Great characters.
The Channings is one of the best books I have ever read. Mrs Wood was an excellent author, but then, I am old-fashioned and prefer the old classics, where the characters have strong morals and are Godly.
