Excerpt It was a beautiful sunny late October day in Anaheim, one of the days before winter set in and after the heat of summer had died down when you didn’t have to have your air conditioner on. There was a light breeze blowing in from the west across the ocean making everything smell like the sea. It’s was one of those days you wish you had more of in southern California. I was walking along the beach watching all the girls getting their last few days of tanning in before the cooler weather came in. The ocean was lapping at the edge of the beach reclaiming some sand with each gentle wave. I thought tonight was a perfect night for the first of the Halloween parties I was invited to this year. I was headed to this little costume shop just past the beach that I always went to. When I walked in the clerk at the register smiled and said hello I smiled back and proceeded into the shop. I was a regular there and knew where almost everything was in the store. I was trying to get the manager to hire me so I figured being familiar with the inventory would help. I decided that this year I would be a merman and headed back to the undersea section of the place. I spent several minutes looking around trying to find a male mer costume with no luck. Just when I had almost given up one of the girls that worked there came up to me. I looked at her and asked, “Do you have any mer men costumes at all?” She grabbed a tablet off her waist, punched in some information and frowning “I’m sorry Kurt we have none in stock and won’t have any till after Halloween. They aren’t a real popular costume for guys so we only carry one maybe two at a time. It is Halloween though you could always go as a mermaid. No one would really think any different.” I stood there thinking about it for a few minutes. “I wouldn’t even know what size I would need these are all in women’s sizes.” She stopped and thought for a moment tapped on her tablet a little more and started verifying my measurements. She knew most of them already since we used to date and I knew the only reason she was being nice to me right now was because she had to be. I had cheated on her with two other girls and when she found out all hell broke loose. After a few minutes, she walked over to a rack and grabbed a costume from the back of the hook that was marked XXXL and presented it to me. “I guarantee it will fit. Would you like to try it on just to make sure?” she asked with a glint and a smile. She led me over to a changing room, hung the costume bag on a hook and held the curtain back for me to walk in. I pulled the costume out of the bag, it had an iridescent bluish purple tail with a wide fin on the end of it, an adjustable seashell bra, some temporary tattoos for the face and body that looked like they were reusable, and a long haired red wig. I pulled the tail up my legs till the top of it rested just above my hips. The way it was designed the front and back v’d down to hit just above the butt and pubic area and the sides came up a little over the hips. The tail spread out in the front and back to completely hide the feet and the tail itself tapered up the legs leaving little room for movement. I figured that was okay since I wouldn’t be moving much anyway. I wasn’t a big dancer and mostly went to sit by the pool or on the beach and hangout with my friends. As I stood there looking in the mirror I heard someone whispering followed by my name. I poked my head through the curtain and didn’t see anyone. I just shrugged it off and went back to the mirror.
